River Streets Demolition Plan Cancelled The plan to demolish most of the river Streets estate (except Ilchester and Corporation Road) has been turned down and an adapted version of the original plan is to go ahead.  Instead of demolishing houses in hard to let areas, why can't they tackle the problem at source by targeting the troublemakers who bring down the reputation of the area?  We saw the rot setting in on Severn Street in the 1990's and nobody wanted to live on that part of the estate because of a minority once again. Why was demolition being recommended? This is a complete U-turn from the previous proposals of improvements including double glazing etc.  The problem is, those of us who pay rent could be paying up to twice as much if we get re-housed. This estate has improved over the last 10 years, but the problem is, Wirral Borough council have always tried to 'demolish' the problems on their estates instead of tackling the people who cause the trouble, so WPH should give this estate a chance to improve even more.  We need more consultation, such as a door-to door survey where people can give their opinions one to one instead of filling in some complicated form sent out by some survey company.  This is all about people but it seems that decisions are being made over our heads and we only get to know what has been decided when some glossy newsletter gets shoved through our doors.   This is just not good enough. Voice your opinions in our new forum   Problems On The Estate We all know what goes on here and who does what so why can't we all stick together and try to improve things. After years of neglect with Wirral Borough Council we now have a new landlord (WPH) who were proposing to demolish most of the estate and start again with mostly newbuild.  This would have meant high rents which would have been too much for the average working person to afford, result increased housing benefit costs and problem families being imported from trouble areas. Building new homes is not the answer as we have seen with the Conaught estate. Why do they want to do this? Is it some sort of deal with a developer? Are they in league with Wirral borough council? Why can older houses off Norman Street get improvement schemes when all we get offered is demolition? What do you think?
